Just Food Co-op was founded in large part due to our community’s desire to have greater access to locally grown food and to support local sustainable farmers. As such, building the local food system is of great importance to us. In addition to labeling our local products and working directly with many small farmers, we hold an Eat Local Challenge for one month in the fall and for one week in the winter to encourage our community members to become aware of the many locally-produced foods that we have available to us here in southeastern Minnesota. We also hold a CSA Day each spring to connect eaters with the community supported agriculture farms that offer shares in their seasonal bounty. Hosting an Eat Local Blog was simply the next logical step in our advocacy for local food.
